Without a doubt, we are not in control of time. It is the most fragile of things, slipping through our fingers like warm sand wanting to be held in our hands for much longer. It is however unfortunate that even the warmest of things grow cold eventually.
Summer has always been a cold season for me. While many bicker about how it is sometimes too hot, summer is never warm enough for me. The sun shines too brightly as though with a burning desire to expose every hidden thing. Once outside, there is no shelter from the orange-coloured flaming ball hovering above us. You feel its rays kiss your skin, often, with a touch that is not so gentle.
Summer is another passing season, with chilly mornings and hot nights. Lemonade is the taste of summer - a cool sweetness on your tongue that washes down the bitterness of tasteless and fruitless seasons before it.
Summer is the beach, the calling ocean, lollipops, ice cream trucks, afternoon bike rides, evening walks, campfires and s’mores, dinner with friends, family gatherings, unforgettable conversations under the moonlight, stargazing, loud music blasting from your neighbour's; it’s holding hands with a loved one, rainy days that feel like warm hugs, reading comics, movie nights, making pasta, baking cupcakes, smiles and laughter, lots of dancing, new beginnings, and the end of a longstanding era.
Summer is the pocket beauty of consistent things and the thrilling sensation of change. It is the shedding of the old, and the becoming of the new. Summer is the pleasant-hearted sister of Spring. It is a continuous chapter with tales of transformation and stepping courageously into the unknown.
July is here, and it is the seventh month of the year. The number ‘7’ represents completion and perfection. July is the month all the pieces fall into place. Everything makes sense, and the ‘why’ is finally answered. Hope is sustenance - manufacture more of it however you can, especially when you need it most. Believe in the impossible. Trust in God who makes all things possible. Have faith in yourself. You have made it this far, haven’t you?
Life is full of surprises, but let who you choose to become be the biggest surprise of all. The past is a lesson. The present is a gift. The future is God’s promise, and surely He never fails.
Cheers to July! May it be our best month yet. And although it will pass again like the rest, I pray you feel every bit of it, in the best possible way.
Thank you for making it this far. Thank you for being here. I’ll see you in the next story, friend.
Warmly, Grace.
